What is included in an eye exam?


Comprehensive eye exams include:

1- A vision test that includes the determination of prescription.
2– Retinal examination and dilation of pupils with eye drops if necessary.
3- Monitoring the pressure of the eyeballs.
4- Inspection of overall health of the eyes.
5- Visual field-of-view test (when needed) using latest equipment and technology

How much does an eye exam cost?

Adolescents under 20 years old and seniors over 65 years old are covered by OHIP if eligible. Adults between 20-65 years old required to pay $80 for full eye examinations except when conditions such as diabetes or glaucoma are present. Most times Visual Field check is covered by OHIP.

How often should I get an eye examination?

Most people think there is no need to get their eyes checked when their vision is fine. Even if you already wear glasses, serious issues may arise since many eye problems start off asymptomatic. That's why it is recommended at least once for every 2 years for healthy individuals. For children, seniors, and those with diabetes or other direct eye problems, it is recommended to go for an eye exam once every year.

Do you directly bill Insurance Providers?

At Eye Style we are able to claim our patients’ insurance on their behalf. This applies to eye exams as well as prescription sunglasses, glasses and contact lenses. In the case that your insurance company does not allow direct on-line claims, we will provide an official receipt for you.   

Can the doctor help me get laser treatment surgeries?

The doctor with the co-management of other specialists, can help you with laser treatment for variety of conditions such as preventing glaucoma, treatment of glaucoma and cataracts, retinal damage, tear duct blockage, diabetes, refractive surgery, keratoconus treatment and other eye conditions.

If I am looking to purchase contact lenses, do I need to have my eyes examined by your doctor?

No, we welcome prescriptions written by your own eye doctor. If you are purchasing contact lenses from us for the first time, we will ensure that we are providing you with proper fitting contact lenses by measuring the base curve of your eye. This procedure only takes a few minutes is important to ensure that your contacts fit properly, feel comfortable and are not an irritant to your eyes. This procedure is performed by our certified contact lens fitter, who is on-site during all operating hours. Additionally, if you have not worn contact lenses before, our certified contact lens fitter will teach you how to properly wear and remove them and can provide pointers for best practices for contact lens use.

How long would it take to get my new glasses?

For most of single vision needs, Eye Style is able to provide your new glasses in 1 hour or less. Special addition such as Transitions or Blue Block lenses and very high prescriptions might take 1-2 days. For progressive and bifocal lenses, it may take up to 7 business days.

Do you carry brand name frames?

Yes, we offer a wide selection of brand name frames for both adults and children. Among some of the brands that we carry are: Hugo Boss, Gucci, Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Georgio Armani, Emporio Armani, Versace, Adidas Sport, normal and rimless frames and many more.

Do you carry contact lenses?
Yes, we carry most major brands of contact lenses, including coloured prescription or non-prescription contacts.
Do you carry sunglasses?
Yes, we carry a wide variety of sunglasses, including Ray Ban and Maui Jim models. In addition, any of our frames can be made into prescription or non-prescription sunglasses, with or without polarized lenses.
Can I get glasses that turn into sunglasses when I go outside?
Yes, we carry Transitions™ Photochromic lenses that rely on UV light to change the colour of the lenses from light to dark. The level of change will depend upon the amount of UV light they receive. Please note that these lenses are not meant to replace sunglasses used for driving. The UV protector on your windshield blocks most of the UV light which will prevent photochromic lenses from darkening correctly.
Do you have prescription sports goggles?
Yes, we carry Adidas Sports Glasses, which can be fitted with any prescription through the use of inserts.
Can I get a pair of safety eyeglasses at your retail locations?
Yes, we can provide safety eyewear in plastic, metal, and titanium frames. They can be prescription or non-prescription and can be fitted with side shields.
Can I have new lenses put in my current frames?
Yes, as long as your current frames are in good shape, in which case we can customize our lenses to give you a perfect fit.
What can I do if I have an allergy to metal frames?
If you are allergic to metal, we can fit you with one of our many plastic or titanium frames.
If I have a strong prescription, do I have any options for getting lenses that are thinner and lighter than the traditional sizes?
Yes, you can get high index lenses to help with the weight and the thickness of traditional lenses. We offer many different levels of high index lenses from which you can choose. Also, we can help you in making a careful frame selection which can also minimize the lenses thickness and weight of the glasses.
What are Hi-Index lenses?
Hi-Index lenses are made of compact plastic polymers that, depending on the prescription, can be up to 50% thinner and lighter than standard plastic. Not all the hi-index lenses are effective for all varities of prescriptions. However, we can assist you in selecting the most appropriate fit for you, by matching the indices to match the requirements of your prescription.
What is the best way to clean my eyeglasses?
We have special cleaning cloths and lens-cleansing solutions to help you keep your glasses clean. You should also wash your glasses once or twice a month in warm, soapy water. Be sure to rinse well and dry them with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
What are progressive lenses?
Progressive lenses are multifocal lenses, which can accommodate prescriptions for near, immediate or distant vision in one lens. The lenses have seamless transition, with no lines.
What are the benefits of anti-reflective (AR) coating?
The most important benefit of (AR) coating is the relief your eyes get from fatigue and eyestrain caused by glare. The coating also aids in night-time driving, by eliminating harsh reflections from street lights and on-coming headlights.
